What is Voltaren Gel?

Voltaren Gel is a popular over-the-counter pain reliever and anti-inflammatory medication that is typically used to treat various conditions such as arthritis, back pain, and sprains. The gel is made from non-starch-containing, gelatine-containing materials and is applied directly to the painful areas.

Voltaren Gel Uses

Voltaren Gel is commonly used to relieve symptoms such as pain, inflammation, and swelling. It is typically applied topically, usually in the form of a gel or spray on a surface of the skin.

How Voltaren Gel Works

Voltaren Gel contains the active ingredient diclofenac diethylamine, which is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID). By blocking the production of this hormone, diclofenac helps to reduce pain, inflammation, and swelling, making it a popular choice for pain relief.

How to Use Voltaren Gel

Voltaren Gel should be applied once or twice a day, depending on the type of pain you are experiencing. You should also apply the gel as directed by your doctor. You can use the gel only on painful areas or for a short duration, but it is best to apply it only after a medical consultation is had. If you find that it does not help you in the long term, you can continue to use the gel even if you feel better.

Introduction:Voltaren is a non-steroidal, non-selective non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) that is a combination of two non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), diclofenac and dutasteride, and an oral NSAID that is used to reduce inflammation in the body. It is available in 50, 100 and 200 mg doses. The diclofenac and dutasteride are available in the lower strength tablet in an initial dose of 50 mg and then a second dose of 75 mg. The drug is typically taken orally once per day. The use of Voltaren is the primary mode of administration. The diclofenac and dutasteride should be avoided in patients with a history of kidney disease, heart failure, or liver dysfunction.

Efficacy and Safety:The efficacy of Voltaren in reducing pain and swelling was investigated in two controlled trials. In the first trial, participants who took Voltaren 200 mg or higher for six months were randomized to receive placebo or diclofenac 75 mg (10 mg/day). Participants were randomized to receive Voltaren 50 mg or diclofenac 75 mg, and participants who did not experience any pain relief were excluded from the trial. In the second study, participants who had used Voltaren 200 mg or higher for six months were randomized to receive diclofenac 75 mg (10 mg/day) or placebo, and participants who did not experience pain relief were excluded from the trial. In both trials, participants who took Voltaren 200 mg or higher for six months were randomized to receive placebo or diclofenac 75 mg, and participants who did not experience pain relief were excluded from the trial.

Safety and Side Effects:The safety of Voltaren in the short-term studies were assessed in two uncontrolled trials (Clinical Studies in Pain, Voltaren Clinical Trials, and Voltaren in the Peripheral Arterial Disease Trial) and one controlled trial (Peripheral Arterial Disease Trial) and the safety of Voltaren was assessed in two uncontrolled trials (Safety and Side Effects of Voltaren in the Peripheral Arterial Disease Trial and Clinical Studies in Pain). It was found that Voltaren is safe for the short-term study designs and that participants were not more likely to experience an adverse reaction to diclofenac than did participants who did not use Voltaren.

Comparison of Voltaren to Other NSAIDsThe comparative analysis of Voltaren with other NSAIDs is performed in the National Institute for Clinical Action (NIAC) and the National Library of Medicine (NLM). The aim of the comparative analysis is to compare the safety of Voltaren and other NSAIDs in the treatment of osteoarthritis (OA). The results of the studies are provided in Table 1.

Table 1Safety of Voltaren, Other NSAIDs and OASafety was assessed in two uncontrolled studies in participants with OA. The results showed that Voltaren is more likely to cause side effects than other NSAIDs (P <.001). The most common side effects were gastrointestinal discomfort, dizziness, headaches, constipation, dyspepsia, nausea and abdominal pain. Voltaren is also less likely to cause side effects in patients with a history of OA.

I know this is something that has been asked many times before but I wanted to share my experience. I was initially prescribed Voltaren 50mg and a couple of weeks later after several weeks my blood pressure and heart rate returned to normal but then the pain worsened and I had to use a pain reliever for a couple of days and then my pain worsened. I was prescribed a topical pain reliever called Voltaren but I thought the Voltaren could be a good alternative. I had been taking Voltaren for 2 years but my blood pressure increased and they said they would not be as effective because they were not being used properly. I have been taking the pain reliever for about 3 years now and my blood pressure is still high at the start of the month. I have tried several different brands of pain relievers but no work has ever been done to determine if they work. The only reason I chose Voltaren over the other brands is because of the lower risk of side effects (I have taken the pain relievers Voltaren, Voltaren 25, Voltaren 40, and Voltaren 50) but it has always worked for me. I will continue to take the pain relievers until the pain is gone or the pain returns to normal. Any advice or help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Dr. R. B. Miller, PharmDI would be very interested in reading your experience. Thank you so much for your time and advice!

Voltaren, I take a 2% or 3% topical gel for pain relief at my local pharmacy. The gel is applied directly to my skin. I've tried several brands of topical pain relievers. Some have been very effective, others have not. I've also been using Voltaren for about two weeks now and my blood pressure and heart rate were not changing. My only other option is to try a topical cream and see if it works as well. I have also used topical gels which I have used for years and have noticed significant improvement in the results. It does seem that the topical gels are working too well. The only side effects I have was the headache and nausea I had with the Voltaren gel. I was not surprised when I started taking the pain relievers because the pain relief was too strong, and my blood pressure was too high. After a week of the gel, it was not so strong so I took it out of my system. I still have the headache and nausea which have not changed. My question is, does the Voltaren gel or gels work as well as topical gels? I know that Voltaren does come with a lot of side effects and that it does not come with the risks of side effects. I don't want to lose my money if this happens. Do you know how long it will take to see results?

Thank you for your time and advice!

I was not surprised when I started taking the pain relievers because the pain relief was too strong, and my blood pressure and heart rate were too high. I want to get back to my normal life and see what my insurance will pay. Thank you!

I was prescribed Voltaren Arthritis Pain Gel to treat a serious inflammation of the face, neck and back. I was so scared I needed to take it. The gel does not make me feel pain in my head. It just relieves my pain. I feel great and I am scared I need to take it.

I have been taking it for years for arthritis. It helps relieve pain and helps my body get used to the pain. Now 6 years later I am afraid it may make my pain worse. I have arthritis and am taking Voltaren Arthritis Pain Gel 2-3 times a day to treat the pain. I feel so much better.

Can anyone recommend a safer way to use this product? I am not sure. Any tips or advice would be most appreciated.
